THE PROBLEM

Why Most BJJ Trackers Fail

Most BJJ apps let you log a session and that's it. You end up with a list of dates and a number — but no real picture of where you stand.

A real tracker should answer one question: are you on track for your next belt? That requires connecting your sessions to the IBJJF graduation system, weighting volume vs consistency vs time in grade, and showing you the gap.

BJJ Belt Progress is built around exactly that. Every session you log feeds into your BJJ Index, which is recalculated against IBJJF requirements in real time.

UNDER THE HOOD

How the BJJ Index Works

The BJJ Index is a weighted score from 0 to 100. It combines three factors that the IBJJF and most professors use to evaluate readiness for promotion.

Volume (50%). Your total logged sessions vs the expected count for your belt and training frequency. More volume = higher score.

Consistency (30%). How regularly you train across weeks and months. Disappearing for 4 months drops your consistency score even if your total volume looks good.

Time in grade (20%). Months at your current belt against the IBJJF minimum. This is the only factor that is officially measured by the IBJJF.

When all three indicators are green, your professor has a clear case for your next promotion.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a BJJ training tracker?

A BJJ training tracker is an app that lets you log every BJJ session — date, duration, gi or no-gi — and tracks your training volume, consistency, and time at your current belt against the IBJJF graduation requirements.

Why should I track my BJJ training?

Tracking BJJ training gives you objective visibility on your progression. Without data, you rely on memory and feel — both unreliable. With tracking, you know exactly how many sessions you've done, your training consistency, and your time at current belt against IBJJF minimums.

How does BJJ Belt Progress calculate the BJJ Index?

The BJJ Index is a weighted score based on three factors: training volume (50%), consistency (30%), and time in grade (20%). The formula uses the IBJJF graduation requirements as the baseline for each belt level.

Is BJJ Belt Progress free?

Yes, the core tracking is free forever. The app offers an optional 14-day free trial of NORTH (the AI coach), then a Pro plan ($6.99/mo) and Elite plan ($12.99/mo) for AI debriefs after every session.

Can I track Gi and No-Gi sessions separately?

Yes. Every session you log is tagged as Gi or No-Gi, and the app tracks both independently while contributing to your overall BJJ Index.
